Message from the Headteacher

 Dear Parents/Carers,

It's been my privilege to teach a lot of our classes this week. I've seen some brilliant mapping skills from key stage one and in reception, they have been thinking about habitats with Rabbits class creating their own 3D map of Glastonbury.

Thanks to all children in years 1 and 2 who have been engaging with SumDog, Mr Edwards tells me the children are getting on really well.

A big thanks to our resident DJ, Becky Jallow who had the Foxes dancing their socks off yesterday!

Thank you for your support,

Kerry Devane

Message from our School Nurse, Maggie:

Hello, my name is Maggie (Mclinden), I’m the School Nurse linked to your child’s school. I hope you’ve all had a good half-term holiday.

School Nursing wants to support your child to be the healthiest they can be. We can help with things like; bed-wetting, healthy teeth, managing infections, emotional wellbeing, healthy eating and exercise. This Spring we’re visiting Schools for the National Child Measurement Programme (reception + year 6).

Eating a healthy diet is important for your child’s growth and to keep them healthy in their future life. Here’s some information to help you:

  • For basic information on what makes a healthy diet check out the NHS Eatwell Guide https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/the-eatwell-guide/
  • Change for Life is now Better Health: healthier families. To help your child to eat well and move more visit https://www.nhs.uk/healthier-families/
  • Some of you may have seen or heard the public health advertisements promoting the new Food Scanner app to help families make healthier food swaps https://www.nhs.uk/healthier-families/food-facts/nhs-food-scanner-app/
  • Encourage your child to drink water rather than fizzy drinks or sugary squash and brush their teeth twice a day. Information and tips https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-body/taking-care-of-childrens-teeth/

If you have a question for us, we have a confidential text messaging service called ChatHealth (text 07480 635515). This is open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and is staffed by the School Nursing team.

Parenting Tip

It's important to reflect on how we view our child's behaviour because how we view it, will have a big impact on how we deal with it. When we've decided our child is being 'manipulative', 'doing it on purpose' or 'just being naughty', it stops us wondering what really could be behind the behaviour we're seeing.

A useful tip is to stop thinking MIS-BEHAVIOUR and start thinking MISSED-SKILL. Ask yourself "What does my child need to LEARN to help them better manage the situation they are in?" This can apply to day to day tasks, social situations and children's emotions. See every unhelpful behaviour as a teaching opportunity and watch how your child responds.

Artist of the week

Jean-Michel Basquit

Jean-Michel Basquit was an artist from New York and his parents came from Haiti and Puerto Rico (which are islands in North America). His mother encouraged his interest in art.

He began painting anonymous messages on walls and on subway trains in New York City.Jean-Michel didn’t learn art at school. He mixed together Abstract  Expressionism and graffiti to create his own unique style. Jean-Michel didn’t learn art at school.  A few years later people started noticing the graffiti everywhere and started liking it. Jean-Michel was noticed and people started paying him a lot of money because they loved his graffiti and art work. He then became very famous very quickly, but sadly he died when he was very young.
