Message from the Headteacher
Dear all,
Kindness has been voted as the 2024 children’s word of the year. In response to the Oxford University Press survey, 61% of 6000 children identified ‘kindness’ as their word of the year.
That the word ‘kindness’ should be the top choice amongst children, with thousands of words to choose from, is really encouraging.
At St John's we have been focusing on the words 'kind' and 'love' as they both appear in our values and school rules.
This week I asked the children when they had demonstrated kindness to an adult. They shared some lovely examples.
'I was kind to my next door neighbour by visiting and cheering them up'
'I was kind to my mum and helped her with the cleaning'
Please help me by highlighting to your children when they are being kind. If they know what kindness looks like in these formative years, it will shape their futures.
