Message from the Headteacher

Happy Friday everyone!

The children have had another busy week!

This week the teachers have been thinking of more ways to support reading at home - after the successful Phonics workshop we want to keep the momentum going.

Do you struggle to hear your child read every day? After half-term we are going to open up the hall from 8.20am on Mondays and Tuesdays and offer tea and toast and a warm place to sit and hear your child read. I will be in hall to offer support. If this is successful we will offer more mornings.

Secondly, on a Tuesday after school we will be opening all classrooms up for 'Time to read Tuesday'. At 3pm on Tuesdays please join your child's class to hear your Class teacher read a story. This will give you hints and tips on how to add narration to your voice and what sort of questions you could ask when sharing a story.

Please come along and show your support.

Have a great weekend,

Kerry Devane - Acting Headteacher

Parent Tip

Good sleep is important for your child's physical and mental wellbeing.

A relaxing bedtime routine is an important way to help your child get a good night's sleep.

Relaxation tips to help sleep

Doing the same relaxing things in the same order and at the same time each night helps promote good sleep:

  • A warm (not hot) bath will help your child relax and get ready for sleep.
  • Keeping lights dim encourages your child's body to produce the sleep hormone, melatonin.
  • Once they're in bed, encourage your child to read quietly or listen to some relaxing music, or read a story together.
  • You could also suggest your child tries this relaxing breathing exercise before bed.

Artist of the week

Friedensreich Hundertwasser was an Austrian artist. He often called himself Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser (Land-of-Peace Rainy-Day Dark-Colourful Hundred-Water). Hundertwasser became known for designing buildings, but he also created stamps, painted, designed posters, and other works. He even designed a new flag for New Zealand, based on a local fern frond, called the Koru.
