Message from the Headteacher

A belated Happy New Year to you all!

This term we are promoting working with parents to support their children at home. There will be Phonics and Maths workshops for all parents to attend. We would really like as many of you there as possible. Your support is greatly appreciated. Dates are below. Please see your class teacher for more information.

Don't forget to keep an eye out for posts on Sunday night or Monday morning that share the learning in your child's class for the week and any changes to the timetable.

This week Otters have started their Forest School sessions with our lovely Forest school teacher Lisa. Reception children will have Forest school throughout the year and each KS1 class will have an opportunity to have Forest school for half a term. Please visit Lisa's website for more information.

We are also welcoming back Eliza from Hop Skip and Sing next Monday, she will be leading Music sessions this term with Nursery and the Reception classes. These sessions have very kindly been funded by the Glastonbury Festival charity.

Well done to Coral and Eli for achieving stripes in their Jiu-jitsu class. We are so proud of you!

We haven't had any home achievements sent in for a while. Please send any achievements and photos from home to my email. This could be achieving a swimming level, learning to ride a bike or anything else you are proud of.

Parenting Tip

A common complaint I hear from parents is that they often have to ask their child multiple times, maybe even to the point of shouting, before their child cooperates.

Professor Matt Sanders, author of the Triple P programme suggests following these steps.

- Stop what you are doing and move to within an arm's length of your child.

- bend down to their eye level, say their name and tell them EXACTLY what it is you want them to do.

- Wait for them to process that and respond - five seconds is enough (10 seconds for neuro diverse)

- if your child does as asked, praise them.

- if your child does not do as asked, repeat the request once more then back it up with a logical consequence if you are ignored.

- children respond better when parents act immediately, consistently and decisively so don't ask five or six times!

Attendance

Our target for attendance is 95%

This week it was 90.4%.

Top class this week is Owls with 95.7% - Well done, Owls

Top year group this week is Year 2 with 93.3%

School Hot Lunches

It's time to order you child's lunches for 16th January until the 10th February. Please use the link below to place your orders. It is helpful, if you do not require any hot lunches, that you complete the form indicating Packed Lunch for each day.

Beech Catering have planned a special meal for the 19th January to celebrate Chinese New Year. It would be great if as many children could join in with this special celebration meal.

Please complete the form by Tuesday 10th January.

Composer/Artist of the week

Each week in Monday's assembly we will continue to introduce the children to a Composer or Artist.

It would be great if you could also listen to the music or look at the Artists work at home.

This week we are focusing on Blues music and the composer is Big Jack Johnson.
