Message from the Headteacher

 Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you to those parents who attended the Remembrance Service today. The children did so well with the 1 minute silence.

It's Carnival next weekend. Isn't it wonderful that this exciting tradition is returning to our town! We do need volunteers to man the Information point that the Carnival team have allocated us. Please let me know if you can help between 2.30pm and 9pm on the day. We need 4 volunteers to be at the information point at all times.

We had our first weekly service  in the church on Thursday. The children listened so well to the service led by the Vicar David MacGeoch. We are hoping to continue this every Thursday. These services offer the children a chance for reflection and stillness as well as gathering as a community.

The children in Year 2 enjoyed a visit from 'Carymoor Recycling Centre' this week. They learnt about how we can all do our bit to reduce waste and look after our planet. A good lesson for us all.

Have a restful weekend,

Kerry Devane

Parenting Tip

Relentless Routines!

Last week, Mrs Devane highlighted the importance of getting to school on time, and outlined what a child misses if they are late. It's more than just lessons!

As much as they resist, children actually love routines and get security from boring predictability. Establishing your morning routine in the early years is useful for keeping things on track as children get older.

Draw up a brief morning routine and then, rather than nagging or repeating yourself, tell your chid  to follow their routine. You can use the 'now and next' language they will have heard in school - For example: "As soon as you have finished your routine, you can watch cartoons until it's time to leave".  Establish this with plenty of enthusiastic praise and encouragement.
