Message from the Headteacher

I have felt immensely proud of the children this week who have been attending assemblies every day. Assemblies start at 9am and have a daily focus on the school values, rules and expectations. We also learn songs and on a Friday we celebrate the achievements of children nominated by the staff. The assembly lasts 10mins and is finished with a prayer or a moment of reflection.

The children, including the Nursery today, have displayed great listening skills, patience and perseverance in learning the words to songs.

I hope you will join us next week at our Harvest Festival where you will be able to hear the songs we have been learning.

The KS1 children visited a local gallery this week which has inspired some wonderful art work. We are always looking for opportunities for children to be inspired by art if you have any ideas then please do get in touch.

Thank you for your continued support,

Kerry Devane

Pupil premium Forms

Thank you to all the parents that have completed their Pupil Premium forms and returned them. All names were put in a draw and Rupert in Hedgehog Class is the lucky winner of a tablet.

Congratulations!

Dates for your Diary

Parenting Workshops -

Our PFSA, Mandy Thorpe, is hoping to run two, one-hour parenting workshops on consecutive Friday mornings.

Friday 15th October at 9:15am - Workshop 1 - Possible causes of behaviour problems. - This workshop invites parents to reflect on how children can 'learn' misbehaviour, and how to identify some of the common parenting traps we all fall into.

Friday 22nd October at 9:15am - Workshop 2 - Encouraging Desirable Behaviour and Managing Misbehaviour - This workshop offers plenty of tried and tested parenting strategies. Each parent will leave with their own plan to manage at least one behaviour.

Please let Mrs Denslow know if you are interested in attending. You would need to attend both sessions.

PTA News

Our first meeting will be on Wednesday 6th of October. 3:15 - 4:15. Everyone is welcome.

We are excited to get going on this year's exciting events and activities. Many hands make light work, and you really don't need to have oodles of spare time to help out.

We'll also need to appoint a chair, secretary and treasurer, so please do come along if you can do any of these roles.

There will be tea and biscuits, of course!

A message from the School Nurse Team

Hello, our names are Maggie (Mclinden) and Victoria (Carnegie), we’re your School Nurse Team. We want your child to be the healthiest they can. We can help with things, like bed wetting, healthy teeth, managing infections, emotional wellbeing, healthy eating and exercise.

We hope you’ve all had a good summer holiday, here are our Autumn term tips.

  • Back to school is a busy time, so get the family back into a good routine to manage everything that’s going on.
  • Make sure your child is getting enough sleep. Did you know most children need 10 hours sleep a night?
  • Check out the children’s page in the information section on The Sleep Charity’s website (www.thesleepcharity.org.uk/information-support/children/).

If you have a question for us, we have a confidential text messaging service called ChatHealth (text 07480 635515). This is open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and is staffed by the School Nursing team. Please feel free to follow us on Facebook at mendipschoolnurses or Instagram Mendipschoolnurse

Achievements

We are so proud of Faye and her brother Flynn who both rode their bicycles without stabilisers last week. How exciting!

Please do keep sending in your children's achievements we really like hearing about their accomplishments!

Attendance

Our target for attendance is 95%

Top class this week is OWLS with 95.15% - Well done

Top year group this week is YEAR 2 with 93.87%

Lateness has improved this term, and we are so pleased you are working with us to help children learn the life skill of punctuality.

A reminder that school starts at 8.50am, children are then registered and attend assembly at 9am. If you arrive after the register has been taken then your child will be marked as late. If you are persistently late this will trigger intervention from our PFSA, Mandy Thorpe (Parent Family Support Advisor). If you are struggling with routines and getting to school on time Mandy can offer support before intervention is needed.

Harvest Festival

We are glad to be supporting our local community via the Glastonbury and Street Bridging the Gap Foodbank.

If you would like to send a donation, the foodbank would be very grateful of any dry goods and tinned goods which are well in date. Please send any donations into school with your child on Thursday morning.

Parents are welcome to join us in Church on Thursday at 9:15am. The children have been working hard on their singing and performing.
