Message from the Headteacher

 Dear Parents/Carers,

I have really enjoyed the Spring sunshine this week, as have the children. We have been marking 'Science week' in the school with Science lessons every afternoon with a focus on 'Growth'. Our Science lead governor Mike Dobbs completed a Science walk with the Jess Cullen the school's Science lead. Mike is a secondary school Biology teacher. He was very impressed with all the practical Science activities that were going on in the school.

Now that the frost has gone it would be great to get some pots around the school planted up again. We would be very grateful of any donations of outdoor plants, particularly for the front of the school so that we can bring colour and nature to the playground. We are also looking to develop a herb garden so if you could bring in herb plants that would be great! If you could bring in your donations next week we will get the children planting and sprucing up the planters and grounds.

Have a great weekend,

Thank you for your support,

Kerry Devane

Parenting Tip

Doing the Noodle!

This is a script to give you some ideas about helping children relax when they are stressed, anxious or worried. The main idea is to help children be like a soft, cooked noodle and relax!

Here are the steps:

1) Start by explaining that a worried stressed body is usually stiff like an uncooked noodle that could easily be broken.

2) To relax, children want to look and feel like a cooked noodle - soft, floppy and warm

3) To do this, children loosen up their body parts by wiggling them, shaking them, and telling them to relax.

4) Children start by telling their toes to 'wiggle', then they tell their toes to 'stop' and feel warm and soft.

5) Then they do the same with the other body parts, starting with their feet, legs, bottom, tummy, hands, arms, shoulders, face and head, until their whole body feels like a soft cooked noodle lying on a plate!

Composer of the week

Ludwig van Beethoven

Continuing with our Classical theme this week's Composer is Ludwig van Beethoven.

Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer. He wrote classical music for the piano, orchestras and different groups of instruments.

Beethoven lived when the piano was still a new instrument, and when he was a young man, he was a talented pianist. Beethoven was popular with the rich and important people in Vienna, Austria, where he lived.

In 1801, however, he began to lose his hearing. His deafness became worse. By 1817, he was completely deaf. Although he could no longer play in concerts, he continued to compose. During this time he composed some of his greatest works. He is said to be one of the greatest classical composers who has ever lived.

School Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for loving us and teaching us how to love, persevere and respect each other in everything we do.

Amen
