Message from the Headteacher

Thank you to Leo's Dad, who captured this amazing shot of St John's church peeking through the mist with Glastonbury Tor in the background. What a beautiful place we live and work in.

It's been a very busy week at St John's this week. I have taught in Hedgehogs class twice this week and I have been blown away by how far they have progressed since September.

As Acting Headteacher I teach a day or two a week to release the Class teachers to focus on the subjects that they are leading. I also sometimes may cover when the teachers are ill or on a course. Teaching in all the classes means I really get to know the children and have a good overview of what they are learning.

You may have noticed Mrs Hopkins ClassDojo post on our new 'Rainbow Reading Challenge' I am really looking forward to giving out ribbons for the children to adorn on their book bags. Remember it's not a competition or a race to the finish line, take your time when reading the books to your child.

Thank you for your support,

Kerry Devane

Parenting Tip

How much attention, does your child get, for behaviour you DON'T like happening?

It can be easy to stop noticing all the good things that go on in families. We might be quick to point out when a child is doing something wrong but fail to notice and praise when they are doing something right. If this goes on too long, a child might learn that an easy way to get some attention is to annoy their sister or draw you into pointless arguments. Professor Matt Saunders suggests making a particular effort to notice positive behaviour so that it increases. As you do this, where possible, plan to ignore minor irritations and see if those die out"

Attendance

Our target for attendance is 95%

This week it was 91.9%.

Top year group this week is Year 2 with 92.9%

Composer/Artist of the week

This week's Artist of the week is Frida Kahlo. I really love her colourful paintings and admire the strong woman she was. A lot of her paintings were self-portraits. Maybe you could encourage your child to do a self-portrait this weekend and share them with your class teacher.
