Message from the Headteacher

A belated Happy New Year to you all!

This term we are going to be having a big drive on supporting families with learning at home. Look out for posts on Classdojo from your Class teachers sharing how you can support your children at home with reading and maths. This is more important than ever after the lost learning that COVID has inflicted on our children.

We are also looking for parent volunteers to hear readers in school. Please see Frankie in the office if you are interested. You will need to complete a Disclosure and barring check in line with our school safeguarding policy.

Thank you for your support,

Kerry Devane

Roof Repairs

On Monday the 17th of January scaffolding will be erected to complete much needed roof repairs to the front and rear of the school. Could you please ensure your children do not touch or climb on the scaffolding, before or after school. During this time, could Foxes class please use the yellow door near the pencils to enter and exit the school. There will still be a walkway to if you need to come to the office.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Parenting Tip

A common complaint I hear from parents is that they often have to ask their child multiple times, maybe even to the point of shouting, before their child cooperates.

Professor Matt Sanders, author of the Triple P programme suggests following these steps.

- Stop what you are doing and move to within an arm's length of your child.

- bend down to their eye level, say their name and tell them EXACTLY what it is you want them to do.

- Wait for them to process that and respond - five seconds is enough (10 seconds for neuro diverse)

- if your child does as asked, praise them.

- if your child does not do as asked, repeat the request once more then back it up with a logical consequence if you are ignored.

- children respond better when parents act immediately, consistently and decisively so don't ask five or six times!
