Message from the Headteacher

Thank you for your well-wishes and thank you, Mrs Maisey and the rest of the school staff for working so hard this week.

You really have had a busy week with a wonderful Reception nativity being filmed, a Christmas lunch, decorating our Church Christmas trees for the festival and lots more.

It's my favourite time of the year, and I am really sad to be missing Christmas events. All being well I should be back on Wednesday 15th December, when my isolation ends. Just in time for the cutting of the Holy Thorn.

Stay safe,

Kerry Devane

Parenting Tip

Each week we are going to share a parenting tip from Mandy Thorpe our PFSA (Parent Family Support Advisor) that may help with parenting which I know you will agree can be a tricky path to navigate.

The shops are full of toys and Christmas mania at the moment. Children are writing and rewriting their Christmas lists.

A parent shared an idea a few years ago to help around the Christmas period. When your child asks for toys in the shops you pause for a second, comment on the thing they’re pointing out, take a photo on your phone and agree that it's a great toy/item, and you have taken a picture to remind yourself that she/he likes it.

It's very likely that your child will then forget the toy/item and move on to something else.

This strategy avoids meltdowns and tantrums in the shop and shows the child that you are noticing and responding to the things they point out.

Peregrine Club

Miss Aimee Huntley will be stepping down form running Peregrine club after Christmas. Miss Huntley has taken a new post within the school and a new post at another school. Thank you, Miss Huntley for your hard work and dedication over the years in providing childcare for our families.

Miss Emily Loxton and Miss Jo Goode will be running Peregrine club from January.

Achievements

Congratulations to Carmen for achieving Level 5 in Trampolining. Well done Carmen, we are so proud of you. Keep jumping!

Holy Thorn

The oldest child in the school Isaac Barron will be cutting a sprig from the Holy Thorn in St John's church on Wednesday which will be sent to the Queen for her Christmas table.

The custom of sending a budded branch of a Glastonbury thorn to the Queen at Christmas seems to have begun in the early 17th century, when a branch was sent to Queen Anne, King James I's consort.

It is believed monks from Glastonbury Abbey took care of the original, which legend says grew after Joseph of Arimathea planted his staff on Wearyall Hill 2,000 years ago.

We are very proud to be part of this traditional custom. Good Luck Isaac!
