Jumping Johns Nursery has children who are 2, 3 and 4 years old.

Our Nursery has two rooms the Caterpillar Room and the Butterfly room.  The Caterpillar room mainly has the younger children whilst the older children are usually in the Butterfly room.

Caterpillar room is in the Orchard Court Building next to the library and is linked to the school site via a set of steps which lead into the Reception playground.

Butterfly room is on the School site and is next door to the Reception classes.

All children spend time in both rooms and are given opportunities to spend time with all our staff and children.

Who works at Jumping Johns?

In our Nursery there are lots of members of staff who enjoy playing, supporting learning and caring for all of the children.

What do we do in Nursery?

In Nursery we like to have a routine to help children feel secure and at the beginning of every session we use our photo board to talk about what will be happening during the session.

Nursery Daily Routine

In the Autumn Term once all of the new children are settled in we will begin our weekly swimming sessions.  Children go into the pool in small groups of about 5-6 and there is always an adult in the pool with them.  Our swimming sessions help children to gain confidence in the water and give them an opportunity to practice getting themselves dressed.

We also have a dance session, which again will begin once children are settled.  These sessions are run by a dance teacher called Kayla.  Most weeks we dance to “All the Little Ducks are Swimming in the Water” and “Rock around the clock”.  Then we usually find out what Kayla has brought for us to use for the session; sometimes it’s ribbons, feathers, hoops or scarves.

Every half term we have a focus on specific areas of learning.  We usually have a story that we try to learn off by heart and then adapt to create our own new versions e.g. ‘We’re Going on a Dinosaur Hunt’.  There are often events for us to join in with as part of the school.  You can find out what our current focuses are by looking on the parent notice board outside of Nursery or by reading our half-termly letters.
