Forest School

St. John’s Infant’s School and Jumping John’s Nursery

Forest School for 2017 – 2018

Every Thursday – Nursery morning, KS1 afternoon

Our aim in bringing Forest School to St. John’s is to give children the opportunity to spend more time learning outdoors; to work creatively with natural materials, build their ability to work cooperatively, learn to evaluate risk, and develop their awareness and empathy for the natural world. At the same time working outdoors improves their confidence, sense of well-being and spiritual awareness.

The planned activities will follow a two-year cycle. Each year children will have a half-term of activities with the Forest School Leader, reinforced by regular outdoor activities with their class teacher. The second year of the programme will build on the skills and experiences of the first year. Forest School sessions will take place on Thursday afternoon. For your information, the draft programme for 2017 – 2018 is given below.

The Forest School Leader currently delivers Forest School at two schools and a nursery in the Wells area. He has 10 years experience as a Level 3 Forest School practitioner and is a qualified teacher with many years of classroom experience. He has published two books on outdoor learning that can be found on Amazon.
